Finding happiness is not what you think…
It ‘s not even dependent on the type of business you are involved in. It’s about where you are placing most of your attention.
Most entrepreneurs work really hard in the pursuit of their dreams. Yet, the majority never reach their goals, or even get close. Why is that?
Srikumar Rao, executive consultant and MBA teacher, says most of us get it completely backwards. That’s because we’ve been working off the wrong mental model. So, it’s a matter of finding the correct focus and living in it.
He speaks about this in this Ted’s Talks presentation called, “Plug In To Your Hard-Wired Happiness”.
After watching this, some of you may feel a paradigm shift, while others will, as I did, get a very timely reminder of what’s really important in life. After all, focusing on process trumps outcome any day of the week, without reducing it to an either/or decision. We set the outcome, and then detach from the need to attain it before we can be happy. Otherwise we become very needy entrepreneurs. And that’s a contradiciton in itself.
Too many of us are overly dependent on outcome for our happiness, rather than being in the bliss of the pursuit: learning new skills and capacities, going deep into the practice, building relationships and enjoying our unique entrepreneurial journey
My teacher Tulshi Sen says, “The purpose of life is the expansion of happiness”. The secret of a successful expansion lies in our daily process. It’s a matter of Consciousness creating reality. If our consciousness is trapped in the if/then mental scenario, we’re doomed before we even start. And, life becomes unbearable.
Let us continually ask ourselves, where are we placing our consciousness, right now? This way we can continually make corrections, like the good pilots do. Abundant outcomes will be waiting at our feet…
